No, I’m not talking about that itch. I’m talking about the “acting Itch”. So strong and palpable it’s difficult to ignore.
My first taste of acting was a course at NIDA in Sydney, one day a week for 6 weeks. At the time I had no idea what I was doing or if I would even like it. But I was always interested in film and TV so I gave it a go. At the end of the course my tutor pulled me aside and said something to me that I will never forget. He said that he saw something in me; something I now call “The Itch”.
I was always interested in performing. My first real introduction into the idea of a career was in the year 2000 when they put out a worldwide casting call for the role of Harry Potter. I heard this on the radio and naturally I thought I would make the best Harry Potter, but I had no idea how to go about it, not comprehending acting was a real job I could do. That’s when “The Itch” really first began.
The acting bug had bitten me and was under my skin. I had no idea it would cause this insatiable desire, an unstoppable force in me where the only way to get relief was to be up on stage or in front of a camera.
“The Itch” is in all of us. We all have a little bug that won’t stop nudging us until we are achieving our dreams and goals. Acting is my Itch. What’s yours?
